Quelqu'un saurait-il si cette dent marocaine est un stade transitionnel initial de cretalamna appendiculata vers paleocarcharodon ?

Il faudrait que tu nous indique la provenance géographique et stratigraphique exacte.

Vue comme cela elle me fait penser à une dent pathologique d'Otodus obliquus, mais pour écarter une erreur d'identification, les infos sont obligatoires.

Merci Elasmo, je vais m'informer... J'avais pensé à parotodus sp. pathologique. Voilà déjà l'opinion du proprio de ce chicot.

Hi Fab, i completely understand your concern and I'm aware it's not a 'conventional' transitional Paleocarcharodon.

Myself and an American friend are investigating possible evolutionary progressions from the various sub-species of Cretalamna, i.e - we know Otodus evolved from Cretalamna, but with a shark like Paleocarcharodon that seemed to be here one minute in the Paleocene and gone the next with hardly any clues about where it came from, we are considering this tooth and have erected possible scenarios about its evolution from a sub-species of Cretalamna. We are doing the same with Parotodus sp. - P. benedeni.

There is a lot of space from the Coniacian to the Danian for numerous transgressions of species'.

For you - I understand this is not early Paleocarcharodon, I believe it's an even earlier transitional example of the species with all its characteristics falling into place - flattening of the roots lingual bulge and squaring of the root lobes, bourlette reducing and broadening at the base of the main cusp.

This is the only tooth I have ever found with these characteristics and it's certainly incredibly rare. ( You know how much Moroccan material passes through my hands )

Parododus sp. have a high lingual root bulge and generally a rounded tip of the main cusp.

That's pretty much all I am certain about this tooth at present, but I would be more than happy for you to post photographs or any of my comments onto your forum.

Le demandeur ?... La personne qui se propose de me refourguer cette dent atypique est Steve Geddes alias scampi112. Il se fait d'ailleurs un plaisir que ses propos soient rapportés ici. J'attends sa réponse pour la couche et le gisement pré&cis.
